Geoscience Education ENGAGE Workshop

By Caitlin Callahan, IAGD Executive Counselor

On January 18-20, the IRIS consortium in Washington D.C. hosted the ENGAGE workshop, a meeting intent on Encouraging Networks between Geoscience and Geoscience Education.

The workshop brought together early-career geoscientists and geoscience education faculty and researchers in order to discuss shared interests and goals. One of the workshop sessions featured different resources and organizations that may be of particular value for geoscience faculty or instructors, among them the IAGD. Invited participant Caitlin Callahan (IAGD Executive Counselor) presented an overview of the IAGD, the list of accessible field courses available on the website, and information about how instructors could use the network to help them make accommodations for students with disabilities. Follow-up conversations also raised questions about developing further resources for students with learning disabilities in the geosciences.
