Paris, France – A new collaborative effort between the IAGD and the International Union for Geological Sciences Commission on Geoscience Education, Training and Technology Transfer (IUGS/COGE) has been presented at the 40th anniversary meeting of the International Geoscience Programme (IGCP) , 22 February 1012. This collaborative was initially proposed to the 63rd Executive Committee Meeting of the IUGS, 14-17 February, 2012, in San Sebastian, Spain.
This newly established collaboration will primarily result in the promotion of professional development short courses that offer assistance for faculty in curriculum development and instructional accommodation for students with disabilities entering into geoscience programs. These short courses will be offered through formal geoscience conferences and meetings, with the first courses being offered in 2012.
The International Geoscience Programme (IGCP) is the result of a cooperative enterprise between the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the IUGS, designed to attain global homogeneous advancement of the geosciences in order to improve the prosperity of nations and the quality of human life. Over 335 projects in about 150 countries with contributions of thousands of Earth scientists attest to the scientific and applied quality of this programme since its inception in 1972. Today, the IGCP promotes earth science projects with a clear societal orientation for sustainable development.
