7. The IAGD Foundation Update
The IAGD is continuing to work with the Geological Society of America (GSA) to create a new grant-making foundation. The establishment of this foundation will enable the IAGD and GSA to provide a number of innovative opportunities for both students and researchers focusing on accommodation and inclusion in geoscience training programs. Possible initiatives to be supported through the IAGD Foundation are seed grants to those interested in conducting research on accessibility in the geosciences; travel support for students to present their
research at national and international conferences; and grants for researchers to include students with disabilities in their geoscience studies.

Core objectives of the foundation:
– Support student research in geoscience or education research that enhances access and inclusion.
– Support student travel to geoscience conferences and meetings.
– Provide seed funding for innovative research focused on access and inclusion in geoscience training programs.
– Support faculty awards for exemplary work to promote access.
