7. The IAGD Foundation Update

We are very pleased to announce that: on April 27, 2013, the Geological Society of America (GSA) approved the IAGD as an associated society! As a result, the IAGD is now able to engage in strategic planning, outreach and fundraising with the larger membership of affiliated earth scientists that make up the GSA. We are currently collaborating with GSA staff to
formalize a foundation status for IAGD. This collaborative effort will enable the IAGD to fundraise and develop various opportunities for both students and researchers, and to facilitate accommodation and inclusion in geoscience training programs. Possible initiatives to be supported through the IAGD Foundation are seed grants to those interested in conducting research about accessibility in the geosciences; travel support for students to present their research at national and international conferences; and grants for researchers to include
students with disabilities in their geoscience work. Be sure to contribute your ideas and to follow the development of the IAGD Foundation on our website at www.TheIAGD.org. If you would like to assist in the planning and development the IAGD Foundation, please contact us at info@theiagd.org.
